Sweet Italian basil, often referred to as 'Italian Large Leaf' or 'Genovese' basil, is a popular variety of basil known for its large leaves and rich flavor. Plants typically grow between 2 to 3 feet (60-90 cm) tall. The spread is about 1 foot (30 cm) wide. Small white flowers grow from a central inflorescence, but these are often pinched off to encourage leaf growth. Sweet italian Basil is known for its sweet, slightly spicy flavor, making it ideal for pesto, caprese salads, and other Italian dishes. Often used fresh or dried in a variety of dishes, including sauces, soups, and salads.

Basil prefers full sun. Thrives in well-drained soil with a pH that is slightly acidic to neutral. Requires consistent moisture but should not be overwatered. Does best in warm temperatures above 60°F (15°C).

Basil pairs well with tomatoes, peppers, oregano, parsley, and marigolds. These combinations can enhance flavors and repel pests.
